Promote better air quality in your home to take charge of your health and quality of life
Previously, in Part 1 and Part 2, we explained the importance of Indoor Air Quality and some of the common sources of air pollution in homes and workplaces, as well as their health effects.
Now, in Part 3, we at Fairfield-Hamilton Heating & Cooling will discuss the various kinds of products and services we provide local residents to promote superior Indoor Air Quality, which health experts say has a strong link to your health, well-being, energy levels and mood.
The following list explains some of those products:
The iWave-R
The iWave-R is an extremely popular air purification system that has grown even more in practical usefulness since the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This device can be installed inside of any ducted air conditioning system. As the air moves over the iWave ion generator, this small device purifies the air going out into your home of viruses, particles, pathogens, allergens, mold, bacteria, smoke and potential odors. This makes for a far healthier indoor air quality without any harmful byproducts.
With a unique, one-of-a-kind technology, the iWave-R replicates the way Mother Nature purifies the air using lightning, ocean waves, and waterfalls. In this way, pressure and energy in nature breaks up molecules in the air, which cleans and purifies it and creates healthy breathing conditions. The main difference between nature and how the iWave’s technology works, other than the size of the operation, is that the iWave doesn’t create harmful ozone gases as a byproduct the way nature does.
The iWave-R works on any type of AC system with air ducts up to six tons in size. It cleans itself and doesn’t need maintenance or replacement parts.
Humidifiers
Humidifiers add moisture to the air, which boosts the level of humidity in your home, improving the air you breathe when it’s too dry. This helps to relieve a lot of common symptoms of cold-weather with dry air. Humidifiers also help eliminate static electricity in your residence (which is common during Ohio’s winter months) and help prevent dry cracking in furniture and paint. Moreover, they help to improve indoor air quality and avoid a variety of health problems from excessively dry air. We should mention, lastly, that homeowners who get humidifiers usually enjoy an added savings on their monthly energy bills.
Dehumidifiers
Living in Ohio, most of us realize how humid it can feel during the hottest months of summer. When those hot and humid dog days of summer are at their worst, they can send the best of us running back indoors seeking cool shelter. But where can we go if it’s humid indoors, when the moisture in the air is palpable and you can smell its musty smell? Experts recommend keeping the relative humidity level indoors somewhere between 30 to 50 percent. If it rises higher than 50 percent, it can make a home feel uncomfortable and the air unhealthy to breathe. Additionally, high humidity can hinder your AC’s performance and exasperate asthma and allergy symptoms. As if that’s not enough, excess humidity can promote the development and growth of mold and mildew and lead to health problems in even a healthy person. Using a whole-home dehumidifier will improve your home’s Air Quality by sustaining optimal, health and comfortable humidity levels all day. They are wise investments that can ensure you and your family’s health and comfort.
Thermostats
The modern thermostats we have today are a far cry from that old hockey-puck-looking dial on the wall a lot of us grew up with. On top of their cool features and futuristic designs and slick displays, you can control these gadgets from any location with any smartphone or smart device. They are compatible with most of our Indoor Air Quality products.
Using a smart thermostat, you’re able to control not only your HVAC systems, but you can also manage air purifiers, dehumidifiers, humidifiers, ventilation systems and any other IAQ components. Most of the thermostats coming out on the market these days are smart devices. They are made to save energy, lower overall costs and reduce any sort of wasting. Because they are smart, they allow for superior control of your indoor air quality. Such is why investing in a thermostat upgrade results in greater efficiency and improved temperature consistency in your residence.
The result is a saving of money from utility bills while keeping your HVAC system running most efficiently, enhancing your air quality to improve overall health and wellness.
A few of the major brands include Honeywell, Nest and Ecobee.
Air Filters
Air filters are a great way to promote your indoor air quality. However, not every air filter is created equally. And don’t forget, they must be replaced regularly to remain effective.
If you’re wanting to improve your indoor air quality, be mindful that the inexpensive washable fiberglass air filters barely improve your HVAC system’s performance and do less to improve the air quality in your home. Investing in an air filter with a higher MERV rating is a wiser move. You could also upgrade to a thicker filter, such as a four-inch filter instead of the standard one-inch common to most homes..
MERV, which stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, rates air filters on a scale of 1 to 16, with 16 indicating the highest rated, thickest filter. Usually, residential HVAC systems can’t utilize an air filter rated above 13 on the MERV scale.
UV Lights
For generations, the only choices a homeowner had to improve Indoor Air Quality was either ventilation, humidity control or filtration devices. And even though these innovations were helpful, none of them did anything about biological articles such as viruses, mold, bacteria and fungi ‒ the deadly “dark side” of household air pollution.
Then one day someone turned on the light.
Literally…
Having us install Ultra Violet lamps within your HVAC system provides you with an added level of protection from these ultra-hazardous microscopic indoor air pollutants. For those who might be susceptible to allergens and other dangerous organic particles, UV lamps are particularly effective because they kill these allergens along with germs before they can get into the air moving freely in your home. When these pollutants pass under these UV Lights, it kills them and neutralizes the air instantly.
Air Duct Cleaning
If you’re wanting to improve your home’s air quality, promote airflow efficiency and get rid of certain odors in your home, you might want to consider having your air ducts cleaned by a professional.
Air ducts are routes in which all your heated or cooled air is transported from your HVAC system to all the different parts of your home. Knowing this, it should make sense to want to keep this air as clean as possible. In order to do so, making sure your air ducts are free and clean is essential. Our professional duct cleaning service removes any dirt, dust and grime that might have collected inside there that could be clinging to the walls of your air ducts. This can help get any allergens out and remove unpleasant odors that might be coming from inside. The reason why the service is considered important is because people can’t see inside of their ductwork. Because of this, anything inside there typically finds its way into the air you breathe.
